October Wrap Up

I truly owe so many blog posts, but I really spent October doing things besides reading or writing. Just don’t ask me what I did because I genuinely don’t know. The thirteen books I did read though were mostly fantastic (particularly the five rereads!). Anyway, let’s get started.

October Wrap Up

Fourth Wing

I started the month out with a listen to Threshing Day while putting together and addressing my sister’s wedding invitations. My dad was in the hospital (he’s home now) and I was beyond overwhelmed and stressed out. But for the two hours that I was listening to Threshing Day, my only concern was that I want a dragon, I’m obsessed with Ridoc, I miss spending time with Xaden, who is the brother?, Dean <spoiler>, and LIAM. So obviously once I finished Threshing Day, a reread was in order. I did the graphic audios for each book for the first time and that was fantastic. My biggest problem now is my desire to CONTINUE rereading these books on a loop. Like if I think about Threshing Day at all, I just want to pop on the series. So grateful for these books helping me get through a rather rough time.

Sarah J. Maas

Listen… I hated my rereading experience of Sky and Breath, but loved Flame and Shadow, which was a pleasant surprise. But all of it was worth it to be actually reunited with my beloved Nesta in Splintered Harmony. I am Team Nesta, period, which means the fact that the Splintered part of the title living up to its name hurt me. BUT I still had a great time with this set up, part one. Everyone who says Lehabah would have loved this season of Fangs and Bangs… That’s my fire sprite. I miss you, Lehabah. And I too enjoyed the messiness of this book. But I have so many questions. One of which I had before we started: Is Elain evil or just boring? Anyways… can’t wait for January to arrive.

4 Star Reads

I didn’t necessarily feel obsessed with Fall Into Place, but I’m a sucker for a book set in the Fall in the northeast with a melancholy vibe to it. I really appreciated the tone of this book, the way it dealt with grief, and also how it addressed this sense of “my life should look different.” I had an ARC so you can expect an ARC review to land… eventually.

Broken Dove by Dani Francis was doing nothing for me for the first third of this book and I kept wondering at the writing choices. And then things heated up between a set of characters and suddenly I was fully present and ready to go. Absolutely loved the new direction that took AND the plot was interesting again. Not super stoked with the fact that this ended the way it did because now I’m afraid I’m in for the same sort of slow start that I felt with this book in the next installment. But all in all, I’m glad I picked this one up.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Murder by Ally Carter was fantastic and I loved it a lot. I went to buy it yesterday alongside The Keeper and the first bookstore I went to didn’t have a copy so I left instead with The Keeper and SIX OTHER BOOKS because apparently I lack self-control. Don’t worry, I still went to a Barnes after that and picked up my copy alongside one other book and things I don’t need, but wanted… Anyway, I can’t leave my house again for a while. I spent too much money on pay day. The important thing is that this book is classic Ally Cater and these two “hate” one another so well, but also you can see past that and you’re like, “Okay, but you love one another so what gives??” And what gives was really fun to uncover. Oh, and also, the whole solving a murder thing. I had an ARC so you can expect a full review soon.

On the Hustle by Adriana Herrera is a book I’ve had as an ARC for a long time and finally read after soft DNF’ing it years ago. It was good and spicy, but ultimately just really not my favorite book from Herrera. The Fake Mate was… A lot. I’m not actually that into omega verse, it turns out. Ali Hazelwood’s introduction to the concept was a little too easy for this installment, which I can acknowledge is also probably still an ease you in kind of book. But I do always enjoy Ferguson’s writing so this had that going for it anyway. He Who Fights with Monsters is a book I picked up because one of my best friend’s really wanted me to give it a shot and now I have and I’m intrigued enough to have started book two. Do I like it? I don’t know about that. But there’s something about it that has my level of intrigue quite high.

Closing Thoughts

You know, writing a wrap up post where I only read 13 things really isn’t nearly as overwhelming as writing one of these where I read 30. That’s good to know… Anyway, what did you read this month? Let me know your favorites or least favorites!

xx
