The Ten Books I Meant to Read in 2024

I’m focusing here on 2024 releases that I meant to read in 2024 for the most part, except for the one place where I cheat. I would really love to be able to read some of these before the end of the year, but I’m not optimistic I’ll be able to manage that. However, I hope to read them before this time next year! So cross your fingers for me that I at least manage that.

10 Books I Meant to Read in 2024

Summer Nights and Meteorites is one of the few YA books that I was eagerly anticipating and it’s because of my love of Hannah Reynolds and the books she’s been writing lately. Unfortunately, I just haven’t picked it up yet, despite the fact that I really, really did want to! And now I feel like it’s too out of season for me to pick it up. I may still, but we shall see!

Mirrored Heavens by Rebecca Roanhorse is a book I’m avoiding because I so desperately want Serapio and Xiala to have an HEA, but I’m scared they won’t so if I just don’t read it then they’re happy. Is this a logical way of handling my emotions? No, but the thing I’m best at in the world is absolutely avoidance so I shall continue practicing that, thank you very much.

The Black Bird Oracle by Deborah Harkness is a book I can’t wait to read, I just haven’t found time to squeeze it in. But I remain desperate to do so!

The Songbird and the Heart of Stone is where I am cheating because I also included The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King in my list. I am currently re-reading The Serpent and the Wings of Night because that’s what I wanted to do before diving into Ashes. I took Serpent on my vacation, but then I fell in love with Julian Haites and got distracted from reading anything else. But I have finally started my re-read so hopefully I’ll get to both of these in January.

The Ex Vows by Jessica Joyce was not necessarily fully on my radar before I finally read her debut this year, You, with a View. I had heard that people loved that book and people seemed to be really enjoying The Ex Vows as well. So once I finally did read You, with a View, I immediately pre-ordered The Ex Vows on audio and just still haven’t picked it up! I’m really hoping to do so soon. I slipped it onto my #SnowInLoveBingo TBR, I think, so maybe I will manage it sooner than later.

Change of Heart by Kate Canterbary is a book that I’m honestly shocked I still haven’t picked up. I found time to do a re-read of Boss in the Bedsheets, but not to pick up her new one? Shame on me, honestly. That said, Change of Heart follows two doctors, so I think this might just make it onto my #SnowInLoveBingo priority TBR and I’ll manage to sneak it in this month. Here’s hoping.

The Partner Plot by Kristina Forest is the follow up to The Neighbor Favor and I am so intrigued to follow Violet Greene. I found her to be so interesting in The Neighbor Favor. She’s a stylist for celebrities and she was engaged to a big famous rapper guy in the first book. but it really seemed like a relationship that didn’t quite make sense or work, so I am so looking forward to reading the follow up.

Mistakes We Never Made by Hannah Brown was a release I was really looking forward to because I love Hannah Brown. Her season of The Bachelorette was so fun for me and so I’ve followed her ever since. I read her memoir and appreciated it so much, but I’m really looking forward to reading her debut romance. I hope I’ll get to it sooner than later, but I guess we’ll see!

One of Us Knows by Alyssa Cole is a book I’ve put off because I’m just not a thriller reader. What I am is an Alyssa Cole fangirl and I loved her first thriller. I just haven’t read many (any?) thrillers at all this year. It’s not a mood I slip into easily, so at some point, I just need to suck it up and let myself be scared.

A Love Like the Sun by Riss M. Nielsen is a debut romance that made this list because of the cover and the way that B.andherbooks talked about it. It’s a friends to lovers by way of fake dating romance that I think I’ll really love, so it’s also on my #SnowInLoveBingo priority TBR. We’ll see if I can squeeze it in before 2025 gets here. Fingers crossed!

Closing Thoughts

Honestly, the way that I could keep going for ages listing the books that I was hoping to read this year and just didn’t find the time for… And I did read so many 2024 releases! There are just always so many books to read and not enough time. Let me know what books you think I should definitely make time for and which books maybe I would be okay if I didn’t actually manage to squeeze in.

xx
