January Wrap Up & February TBR

Somehow January absolutely flew by and I’m afraid February will do the same thing. I’m participating in #ShopYourShelves Bingo, which I thought meant that it would be a good idea to put myself on a semi-book buying ban. Well. I’ve somehow managed to acquire entirely too many books. Oops. (I say somehow. I purchased way too many, but I was also given a bajillion. Approximately.) I have also read a ton of books this month in an attempt to make this somehow average out. Did that work? Well, we shall see because I am working on at minimum, Balancing My Bookshelves à la Emma from drunk by my shelves over at YouTube. Anyway, before we get to that segment, please enjoy the recap of the books I read!

Balancing the Books

A Balancing Scale

At the beginning of the month, I had a completely ridiculous 1185 books on my TBR total. That’s too many, if we’re being honest, even if you’re taking into consideration that essentially half of those are ebooks and “only” 176 are on my physical shelves. Um. Anyway, way too many books honestly. And, well, did I balance the books?

No.

No, I did not.

I should unhaul books to make them equal out to at least balance out. But I don’t really seem to understand the concept of unhauling ebooks because I feel like I should just give them a shot before just sending them into a collection of unhaul books. And audiobooks? Same. So the only way to unhaul really is to unhaul physical books. Only I tried to do that and I picked out two and was like, “Okay, good enough!” It’s not. I’ve still not told you how dramatically I’ve failed because it’s shameful.

Okay, are you ready? I believe I wound up at +18 and that’s with me only cheating a little bit. Anyway, we don’t need to think about that too much! Let’s move on!

Statistics

  • Books Hauled: 48 (or more, but 48 were written down in my bujo)
  • Books Read: 31 (+1 DNF)
  • Format: Physical (6 + 1 DNF), Ebook (16), and Audio (9)
  • Source: Owned (16 + 1 DNF), Hauled (9), and Borrowed (6)
  • ARCs Read: 6
  • Most Read Genre: Contemporary Romance
  • Queer Books: 3 (+1 DNF)
  • BIPOC Authors: Approximately 14 + 1 DNF

My January Posts

February TBR

So, first of all, I have some ARCs to knock out (in addition to the ones I’m behind on, obviously).

And then I have a whole bunch of books I want to read for a variety of reasons and I would like all of you to pray for me that I get through them. Here are six of them:

Almost all of them are super long audiobooks, so… we’ll see how that goes!

But anyway, normally I would also follow up and talk about posts I’ve found around the internet, but I do not have the energy at the moment. Please share with me your favorite post (of your own or someone else’s) with me in the comments!

And don’t forget to share YOUR favorite reads of the month!

xx

  1. I can offer you the plan I had for clearing my Kindle shelves, and it’s worked as I’m down to under 300. It basically involves reading the book summary (as most books you forget what they even are once they hit a certain number) and seeing if it’s still of interest. Yes and maybe stay. And then you try the first chapter of books to see if they seem of interest and whittle them down that way. It’s slow going but it’s the only way I’ve found to unhaul books and it’s slowly working. I read The Jasmine Throne last year and it’s good! I wasn’t sure at first but I slowly got sucked in once my brain switched out of romance mode and into fantasy mode.

    • Oh this is excellent! I think I’ll definitely try to do that. It sounds so time consuming and daunting, but I really need to tackle it.

I’m glad you enjoyed The Jasmine Throne! I’m hoping I will too!!
