#BangInTheNightBingo TBR

Am I participating in too many readathons right now? Probably. Technically, I haven’t even told y’all about some of the ones I’m doing, but I will say my September reading has been on point because of it. Anyway, we’re here today to talk about #BangInTheNightBingo created by B, Jacque, and Melissa! This Bingo board challenge will be running from September 22-October 31st and I’m keen to participate. I am not making myself any kind of rules about not double counting books for multiple boards/challenges because I don’t think I need the extra challenge so to the extent possible, I’m going to be using books I want to read for other challenges as well. Anyway, let’s talk about my TBR (that we all know I’m unlikely to stick to…)!

Bang In The Night Bingo Board
Row One: A dark and stormy night (takes place on Halloween), Pumpkin on the Cover, Howlin’ for You (shifter romance), A Gothic Romance, #SquadGhouls (a book with a killer friend group)
Row Two: An Own Voices Retelling, #BangInTheNight (sex in a spooky location), Full Moon on the Cover/Stepback, Something Wicked This Way Comes (Wicked in the title), and Who You Gonna Call? (Ghosts!)
Row Three: I Put a Spell on You (Something with Magic), MC has a cat – bonus points if it’s a black cat!, Free Space, Published in October, Into the Woods (takes place in the woods or forrest)
Row Four: A Shocking Twist!, It’s a Sign (Tarot or Astrology related), A Black cover, PSL Vibes (sweet, cozy, and with the right amount of spice, Deal with the Devil (MCs make a deal OR devil in the title),
Row Five: #BeastMode (monster romance), CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (there’s a crime!!!), Bite Me (vampire romance), A Hades & Persephone Retelling, Trick or Treat (Characters in Costume)

Row One

A Dark, Dark and Stormy Night

I’m taking B’s suggestion and plan to read Alexandra Warren’s A Tale of Two Cities: A Halloween Novella for this prompt! I know basically nothing about it beyond this sentence on the Amazon listing for the full holiday novella collection: “A trip to sin city for a Halloween-themed joint bachelor-bachelorette party is all it takes for Savannah and Lincoln to learn this the… not so hard way.”

Pumpkin on the Cover

So far, I’ve found exactly one book with a pumpkin on the cover that I want to read and that is A Match Made for Thanksgiving by Jackie Lau. The book is set at Canadian Thanksgiving, I believe, which means reading it in early October is perfect timing. Nick’s return to Mosquito Bay for Thanksgiving with the family involves his parents springing surprise dates for him and his siblings and they’ve paired his brother Greg with his recent one night stand. He just needs to convince Lily that he’s good for more than one night, and maybe convince himself too.

Howlin’ for You

To re-read or not to re-read, that is the question. Also, the other question is, does Magic Stars count as a shifter romance because technically, it shouldn’t, but also, now that I’ve read Blood Heir, I really need to go back and read Magic Stars. Another really smart option would be Janine by Chencia C. Higgins because it’s been on my TBR for what feels like YEARS and at some point, I should actually read it.

Gothic Romance

I am definitely using Kelley Armstrong’s A Twist of Fate for this one! I loved the first book in the series so much last year and I’m really looking forward to this follow up. Admittedly, I should probably save this to use for ghosts, but… I have no idea what other gothic romances even exist!

#SquadGhouls

I think for this one I’m going for a literal killer friend group with the Black Dagger Brotherhood men and finally continuing in the series with Lover Enshrined by J. R. Ward. I’ve been hesitant about Phury’s book, mostly because I do not understand how this one is going to work, but you know, I trust the process, I guess.

Row Two

Own Voices Retelling

For this prompt, I think I’m going to go with Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluudin, which is a Muslim Pride and Prejudice retelling that I’ve been meaning to read for years.

#BangInTheNight

According to Jacque, Saint by Sierra Simone qualifies and the fact that I haven’t already devoured Saint is an astonishing feat of self-restraint so I’m sure I’ll be gobbling that up very soon anyway.

Full Moon on the Cover/Stepback

After searching through several options, I’ve settled on easily the most obvious choice, The Hidden Moon by Jeannie Lin, which so many of my friends have been telling me to read for ages and I’ve been dragging my feet for no reason.

Something Wicked This Way Comes

I’ve had Wicked Sin by Ainsley Booth on my kindle for quite a while and I think it’s finally time to pick up this bodyguard romance. It sounds like Taylor is recovering from an abusive relationship though so if that content is too heavy for me, I may switch this one out with My Wicked Prince by Molly O’Keefe.

Who You Gonna Call?

Apparently there are ghosts in The Brightest Star in Paris by Diana Biller, which shouldn’t surprise me at all given The Widow of Rose House, and as I am obsessed with Diana Biller’s The Widow of Rose House, clearly I must read this book immediately. (Except I’ve been sitting on my ARC for ages. Listen, we cannot succeed at everything.)

Row Three

I Put a Spell on You

I’ve also been meaning to read Binding Shadows by Jasmine Silvera for such a long time. I’ve put it on so many TBRs and I think now is the time to finally actually read it.

Main Character has a Cat

I know I’m way behind on my ARC reading so it makes no sense to jump ahead and read Count Your Lucky Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur, but also, I’m desperate to read Count Your Lucky Stars so… I think it’s going to happen.

Free Space

For the sake of having a complete TBR, let’s go with A Thorn in the Saddle by Rebekah Weatherspoon, one of the ARCs I have for October that I haven’t squeezed onto this TBR somewhere.

Published in October

And for this one, let’s go with The Vanished Days by Susanna Kearsley, another ARC I have for October that I haven’t squeezed in elsewhere on this TBR!

Into the Woods

Well, The Belle and the Beard by Kate Canterbary looks like it takes place in the woods based on the cover so… can I count it? We’ll go with yes for the time being.

Row Four

A Shocking Twist!

I feel like Not Your Average Hot Guy by Gwenda Bond is at the very least going to have shocking twists for our heroine, Callie, who was just looking for a casual chill weekend and then gets wrapped up in a Satanic cult summoning a demon, but actually the Prince of Hell? I’m very intrigued.

It’s a Sign

I think I’m going to go with The Secret Ingredient by K.D. Fisher, a sapphic romance with wlw and also some element of astrology if I’m remembering correctly!

Black Cover

It’s been much too long since I’ve picked up a Laura Florand book so this prompt seems like the perfect time to change that and read Shadowed Heart, which continues Luc and Summer’s story.

PSL Vibes

I think the perfect book for this prompt might just be Meet Cute Club by Jack Harbon, in the sense of being sweet and cozy with some spice. I hope so, at any rate! I’ve been meaning to read it for ages!

A Deal with the Devil

I think it is finally time I read The Devil Comes Courting by Courtney Milan, which I’ve only been wanting to read for AGES and have had for so long and just haven’t felt ready to pick up. But I think the time has come!

Row Five

#BeastMode

Deal with the Demon by Chace Verity has been on my TBR since Melinda raved about it and I beyond trust her recommendations so… now’s the time to actually pick it up!

CSI

I need to actually finish Murder on Cold Street by Sherry Thomas so that’s the clear winner for this prompt! It’s not like I’m not enjoying it. I just lost steam for some reason and need to return to it.

Bite Me

I think I may try A Quick Bite by Lynsey Sands to see what I think or I may try and continue in my Black Dagger Brotherhood reads and pick up Lover Avenged. We’ll see! I think I may have a couple other options for this too, like Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost, which I’ve previously DNF’d but wanted to know if I would like reading with my eyeballs more than the audio experience. I’m admittedly skeptical.

Hades/Persephone Retelling

I’m obviously going to read Drag Me Up by R. M. Virtues for this one since everyone has raved about it and I bought it but haven’t read it yet.

Trick or Treat

Another according to Jacque moment, but apparently, All The Feels by Olivia Dade includes characters in costume at some point and so you know I can’t pass up the opportunity to include this book in here!

And there you have it! This is a quick and dirty TBR with only one option listed for most of these, which probably means I’m even more unlikely to follow it, but we’ll see how it goes! Are you participating? What books are you most excited about reading?

xx

  1. Can there ever be too many bingo boards? Whatever gets you reading, it looks like fun and a great way to get a few more books read. I really enjoyed Ayesha at Last so I hope you like that retelling and I enjoyed meet Cute Club after going in with no expectations so I hope you like it too.
