A to Z Under Reviewed Romance Recommendation Post

Emma from drinking by the shelf did this the other day and I decided it looked really fun. I’m going to try my very best to give you 26 romance recommendations that have fewer than 1,000 ratings on Goodreads in a sort of speed round with just a sentence or two about the plot. Let’s see how it goes!

A to Z Underrated Romance Recommendations || firewhiskey reader

A – Adjacent by Alexandra Warren – m/f, neighbors with an antagonistic relationship slowly fall for each other, hilarious and also sexy

B – Beginner’s Luck by Kate Clayborn – m/f, home renovation, found family, poignant

C – Can’t Help Falling by Cara Bastone – m/f, explores family, found and otherwise, and also is just really, really good (ARC Review)

D – Desire and the Deep Blue Sea by Olivia Dade – m/f, fake dating for a reality TV sponsored vacation

E – Erstwhile by H. E. Trent – sci-fi polyam m/f/f, space shenanigans are not right so there’s also a mystery/suspense element

F – Forbidden Promises by Synithia Williams – m/f, soap opera-esque levels of drama, the angst is real because it’s a woman going after her ex-brother-in-law (ARC Review)

G – Get It Right by Skye Kilaen – f/f, heavy content so check CWs, but a really lovely and sweet romance overall

H – The Hitman by Katrina Jackson – m/f, this book is a ROMP, there’s train sex and it’s spicy af

I – It’s the Chase for Me by Christina C. Jones – m/f, CCJ is hilarious, this is a fun and quick novella with a top notch grandma character

J – Just One More by Jodie Slaughter – m/f, Valentine’s Day novella, but read it whenever, so sexy, also cupcakes

K – A Kiss for Midwinter by Courtney Milan – so this has more than 1,000 ratings, but it’s the least amount from the ‘k’ books I’ve read and recommend. This m/f historical novella is a hate to love with some trauma in the past.

L – Love Scammed by Rilzy Adams – m/f, two people are tricked into a vacation as a date without having ever met, sexy and sweet

M – A Midnight Feast by Emma Barry & Genevieve Turner – m/f, historical marriage in trouble set during the space race, dual timelines

N – Nothing to Fear by Juno Rushdan – m/f, romantic suspense, but a series best read in order!!, essentially a bodyguard romance

O – One Last Chance by Therese Beharrie – m/f, told in alternating past and present timelines, takes place over 24 hours in the present and it works (ARC Review)

P – Party Favors by Erin McLellan – f/f, set around the NYE holiday, friends to lovers, sexy and sex positive

Q – Queen Move by Kennedy Ryan – m/f, this has many more ratings than 1k, but I haven’t read many Q books so… Anyway, if you haven’t read this estranged childhood friends to lovers romance, you should. It’s beautiful.

R – A Reunion of Rivals by Reese Ryan – m/f, second chance romance, the TENSION (ARC Review)

S – Serving Pleasure by Alisha Rai – m/f, sexy af, across the street neighbors and some voyeurism, family stuff

T – That Could Be Enough by Alyssa Cole – f/f, historical novella, very sweet with gorgeous writing, originally part of Hamilton’s Battalion (ARC Review)

U – Undone by the Ex Con by Talia Hibbert – m/f, I mean, really Issac is coming undone here and as we all know, that is the best thing that could happen to a romance lead. CWs apply

V – Vixen in Velvet by Loretta Chase – m/f, great title, but really the women in this dress making shop are great, the whole series is fun, also a wager

W – Wild Rain by Beverly Jenkins – m/f, historical set in the western U.S., childfree heroine(!!), Spring is amazing (ARC Review)

X – The X-List by Evie Mitchell – m/f, a short novella, a really cute cast of characters/setting, fun and light

Y – Yes & I Love You by Roni Loren – m/f, anxiety and Tourette’s Syndrome representation, fun and funny with serious undertones, a loose love triangle (ARC Review)

Z – Zoe’s Workshop by Nalini Singh – a short in the Guild Hunter’s universe that is adorable and sweet

And there you have it! I hope you enjoyed. Please tell me what underrated books you would have included on this list!

xx

  1. OMG I was thinking about doing a similar post a few weeks ago but Amber was making fun of me!! And now someone has actually made a whole tag of it so I feel validated! I love that it’s also underrated romance and gahh, all of the books from your list that I’ve read are ones I liked a lot. I need to read some of those Nalini shorts.

    • I honestly feel like I read so many of these because of you?? But yes! Definitely read the Nalini shorts when you can. She’s so good.

(Also, like, I picked the underrated aspect because I felt like it gave it a fun unique spin, but truly, would recommend because it actually doesn’t take a ridiculous amount of brain power and that is what I NEED right now. Lol)

  2. I can’t believe some of the se books don’t have more reviews! I feel like everyone on twitter has raved about Queen Move and Beginner’s Luck so where are the reviews saying how good it is? I am adding some of these to my TBR. The underappreciated books of goodreads deserve my love.

    • I know! I was shocked about some of them. Queen Move is one where I had to make an exception based on how few Q books I’ve read, but even so, it still doesn’t have as many as I think it should!
