The Malory-Anderson Family by Johanna Lindsey
Okay, so, a million qualifications on this rec because I’ve only personally read Gentle Rogue and The Magic of You at this point, but you can read mine and Dani’s thoughts about each here and here and you can listen to the Fated Mates episode about Gentle Rogue too! Johanna Lindsey was one of the greats of the romance genre and I’m really pleased I got to read her, especially via audio. I really enjoyed the narrator for Gentle Rogue and The Magic of You, but I will warn that the head hopping is a little disorienting at first. I plan to read a few more of these via audio at some point soon because despite the problems and the dated issues, I had fun reading them!
Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Besides Daisy Jones & The Six, I think Maybe in Another Life is my favorite TJR read. It is available via Audible Escape along with One True Loves also narrated by Julia Whelan and After I Do, narrated by Tara Sands. I really like Julia Whelan’s voice so the audiobooks for these really work for me. Maybe in Another Life follows alternating timelines based on the choice Hannah makes to either go home with her first love or not after a welcome back to LA party her best friend Gabby throws her. One True Loves is about a woman whose missing and presumed dead husband calls her three years post being presumed dead. She is also engaged to someone new. It’s a lot. And After I Do is another one I adored (I listened to it as well) about a couple who decide to take a year off from being married to see if their love is worth fighting for. Each of these books made me cry, tbh, but they were so worth it.
Hot Asset by Lauren Layne
I can’t remember for sure who recommended this book, but I want to say it was Lacey? Anyway, I picked it up for some reason and oh my gosh, I loved it. I wasn’t expecting to, I thought it would just be quick and fun and it was both of those things, but also it was really good! This is about Wall Street hot shot, Ian Bradley, being investigated by the, um, financial crimes people, and falling for his investigator, Lara McKenzie. I really enjoyed this book a whole lot and am looking forward to finally continuing in the series.
The Ones Who Got Away by Roni Loren
The first two books in this series are available via Audible Escape and I listened to both, I think. The first one, The Ones Who Got Away, is about an FBI agent who is being forced to take some R&R time (Finn) and returns to the scene of the tragedy that directed his life down this path of law enforcement trying to do something about guns being in the hands of people who don’t need them. It’s also about Liv, who is a photographer reconnecting with the friends she made after the prom night shooting, and also reconnecting with Finn, the boy she loved. The second book, The One You Can’t Forget, is about Rebecca Lindt, who is still suffering from a lot of guilt about that night, and Chef Wes Garrett, the ex-husband of one of Rebecca’s former clients. Wes saves Rebecca after she’s mugged and the two of them come together in fits and starts and it’s really rather lovely. I have a series review on the blog if you’re interested!
Practice Perfect by Ruby Lang
I still have to read book three in the series, Clean Breaks, but I know a lot of people like that one the most. I’m hoping to read it soon! (Or to have already read it by the time this goes up since I’m scheduling it in advance. Lol) So far, book two, Hard Knocks has been my favorite, because it’s about two people who are attracted to one another, but disagree vehemently about the relative importance of concussion safety and playing a full contact sport like hockey. Their dynamic is really fun and full of banter and also sexy times. I enjoyed it a whole bunch! Acute Reactions is book one in the series and it’s about an allergist who finds herself falling for her restaurant owning patient. I really appreciated that Lang was very careful in how she tackled that ethical issue.
Scoring Off the Field by Naima Simone
Allow me to take this opportunity to continue spreading the gospel about how Scoring Off the Field is the best friends to lovers romance of all time. Because it is. And the audiobook is so well narrated! Tennyson and Dom have been friends for a long time, since they were both in foster care together. Dom is older and he got out of the system and went to play football in college on a scholarship and then went on to play for the NFL. He never forgot Tenny though and has helped her through every stage in her life since they met. Now she’s telling him she’s quitting her job as his personal assistant and he can’t help but feel a little betrayed and like she’s quitting him. It’s so good, y’all! I can’t recommend enough. Also, you can read Scoring with the Wrong Twin (also pretty excellent) and Sin & Ink (about a brother/sister-in-law situation where the brother died and the sister in law is now a widow. It’s HOT).
Fandom Hearts by Cathy Yardley
These books are so fun and I’m really enjoying reading them. The first book is Level Up, which is about a pair of roommates, Tessa Rodriguez and Adam London. When Tessa finds herself falling into a group of friends that want to save a bookshop, she decides to tackle making a video game from scratch to not only help save the bookshop, but also to help her get a promotion she wants. Adam gets roped into helping her and they find themselves dealing with being very attracted to one another. It’s funny and sweet and just really lovely. But book two (One True Pairing) is fake dating so like, y’all know I was even more into that! But I just really recommend the whole series despite not having finished it yet.
So, there are actually quite a few books of Ms. Bev’s in Audible Escape! I’ve listened to two: Indigo and Destiny’s Embrace and I really liked them both. Destiny’s Embrace was so much fun. I loved it so much. It follows Mariah Cooper who moves to California to take a position as Logan Yates’ housekeeper. The two of them have an absolutely incendiary relationship that I should not have loved nearly as much as I did, probably, considering how many times Mariah threw something at Logan. But I adored it so much. And Indigo (first of all, there’s a Fated Mates episode about it!) is about Hester Wyatt, who helps operate a stop on the Underground Railroad, and Galen Vachon or the “Black Daniel” who has helped a whole lot of slaves escape. Galen is injured and Hester has to take care of him and hide him and they don’t really get along too well at first, but they fall in love, obviously. Vivid and Night Hawk are two that I’m particularly intrigued by that are also available via Audible Escape.
Thirsty and Trashed by Mia Hopkins
These books are very unique in my reading life because they’re written in first person from the guy’s perspective. Also, they’re unique because the heroes of both books are fresh out of prison for stealing a car. I feel like so many people LOVE these books so I wanted to make sure to mention that these are available on Audible Escape. The narrators are really good at conveying the emotions of Sal and Eddie, which was really nice. The first one is about Sal, who finds himself living in Vanessa Velasco’s grandmother’s garage, and fighting his attraction to her. Sal works so much and so hard and he’s trying to resist falling back into the gang he was part of when he entered prison. Eddie’s book is about him hooking up with this woman, Carmen, in a garden and then encountering her again at a restaurant. There’s a Shelf Love podcast episode about Thirsty that I would definitely recommend!
Elder Races by Thea Harrison
This is another paranormal series where it seems like the main books in the series are all in Audible Escape, but the novellas are not. Regardless, I’ve read Dragon Bound and Storm’s Heart, both of which were really fun. Dragon Bound is about a dragon shifter who gets BIG mad when he realizes someone broke into his treasure trove and stole a penny. He tracks her down and it is all delightful, honestly. Storm’s Heart is about Trix and Triago who don’t really get along working to secure Trix’s position as Queen. There’s a bodyguard type element to this and I really enjoyed it.
And there you have another ten-ish books for you to potentially check out! Let me know if you’ve found any gems you think I’d enjoy.
xx
