The historical romance readathon is the brain child of Lisa, Lacey, and Jessica and takes place from March 16-March 22. I am very much looking forward to this because I have a LOT of historical romances languishing on my shelves. The women who created this readathon made a BINGO board for their prompts, which is definitely fun. I went through and chose a book for almost every prompt, but I’m going to focus on my Readathon Row here. So let’s jump in!
POC MC: Tempest by Beverly Jenkins
My plan is to read Tempest by Ms. Bev, which has a meet disaster where a mail order bride greets her husband with a bullet, aka, by shooting him. I think she doesn’t know he’s her intended at the time? But… I really want to continue the Destiny series, so we’ll see if my willpower holds. If it doesn’t, I’ll be reading Destiny’s Surrender, which is actually a secret baby style book. Alexander is a rake for sure, so he accidentally sired a baby and now the mom (Billie) is trying to give her child a better life. She’s not really expecting the marriage of convenience she gets pulled into when she shows up on Destiny.
Stepback: Chasing Cassandra by Lisa Kleypas
Let’s all acknowledge my considerable self-restraint in not having already devoured the new Ravenels book. I may have already started reading it (in the parking lot of the grocery store waiting for my prescription to be ready to pick up), but I made myself stop once I got home because I knew I planned to read it for this readathon. Anyway, it’s about Cassandra and Tom Severin. I think Cassandra gets caught up in a scandal and then a marriage of convenience with Tom happens? Unsure, but very excited to read and find out.
Gilded Age: Duchess by Design by Maya Rodale
Brandon is looking for a wealthy heiress to marry in NYC to take back with him to England, but he finds an all too tempting seamstress instead. Adeline Black wants to be a great designer but it’s hard to resist Brandon’s offer of taking her to society events where she can show off her designs and ostensibly help him pick out the future duchess. I’m really looking forward to giving this one a shot.
Wallflower: Temptations of a Wallflower by Eva Leigh
Lady Sarah Frampton has a secret identity. Her wallflower means she doesn’t draw notice or suspicion that she might be the woman behind the scandalous erotic stories sweeping London. Jeremy Cleland is tasked with unmasking the true identity of the scandalous author and he’s not expecting his new, innocent bride to be the very woman he’s seeking. I’m a little nervous, but also very intrigued by this premise.
By an Author of Color: Delicious by Sherry Thomas
This is another part where I’m not sure if I’m going to go with my first choice, Delicious, read another Ms. Bev, or read Ravishing the Heiress by Sherry Thomas. Delicious is a foodie romance, where Verity’s food caused Stuart Sommerset to fall pretty much the second her delicious food touches his lips. Ravishing the Heiress is a marriage of convenience between a couple who agreed to wait eight years to consummate their marriage, and now Millie’s got to convince her husband to actually love her and not reunite with his childhood sweetheart. So, basically, it depends on how much angst I’m in the mood for as far as this prompt goes!
