ContemporaryAThon TBR

Another round of one of my favorite readathons is here! ContemporaryAThon Round Six will be taking place from February 10th-February 16th and is hosted by Chelsea, Julie, and Natasha. There are seven challenges and I’m going to try to achieve each of them. So let’s see how this is going to go!

Challenge One: Read a Contemporary Romance with Green on the Cover

My pick for this is Wicked Sexy Liar by Christina Lauren, which is one of their earlier books that is steamier than their current writings. It’s the fourth book in the series and it’s about London and Luke and their past history is going to affect their present? Idk. The blurb just confused me, but it’s all good. I’m excited to dive in.

Challenge Two: Read a Contemporary from a New to You Author

I have several arcs I’m trying to work through this month and one of those is If I Never Met You by Mihari McFarlane. This is a fake relationship and our main character is a lawyer so I’m definitely excited. Ooh, actually they both are lawyers. I’ve wanted to read McFarlane in the past, but this will actually be my first from her.

Challenge Three: Read a Diverse Contemporary

Secret Heir Seduction by Reece Ryan is another arc I have thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin and categories are, surprising no one, really fun to read. So I’m looking forward to picking this one up. It’s a part of the Texas Cattleman’s Club series, which is a series that different authors write in, and it’s a second chance romance. Hopefully I’ll enjoy it! I think I will.

Challenge Four: Read a Backlist Contemporary

I’ve really got to get moving on my KissCon TBR, so I’m going with Love on My Mind by Tracey Livesay for this one. This book is about PR professional Chelsea convincing Adam, reclusive nerd, to let her help him launch a new product without telling him that his company actually already hired her. It sounds a little convoluted and sometimes I struggle with deception plots, but I’m excited to give this book a shot!

Challenge Five: Read a Dark/Hard Hitting Contemporary

American Love Story by Adriana Herrera is my choice for this prompt and I’m truly so excited to finally get to it. This book deals with an activist and a prosecutor who feel like even though they’re on the same side in the macro, their differences are too much for them to overcome in the reality of living their day to day lives. I trust Adriana Herrera with basically any material so I’m looking forward to reading this m/m finally. This was one of my most anticipated books of Fall 2019 and I still haven’t gotten to it! But I will now. Finally.

Challenge Six: Read a Contemporary with an Illustrated Cover

Apparently I actually read my illustrated covers pretty promptly because I didn’t have many to choose from for this challenge. I’ve decided to go with The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez though, which is a controversial pick. However, some people whose taste, I think I share, have enjoyed it, so we’ll see where I wind up. I’m nervous though because I know there’s a sudden plot development at the end that I may struggle with. Anyway, this is a book about a woman who learns she’s unlikely to be able to have children and she’s kind of trying to cope with that reality on her own. But that doesn’t really seem to work out too well for her. Anyway, she falls for this guy, but they try to just be friends. It doesn’t work out too well, obviously.

Challenge Seven: Read a contemporary beloved by a member of the book community

Cover of A Bollywood Affair by Sonali Dev

Dani talked about A Bollywood Affair by Sonali Dev last year or the year before as a book she could not put down and ignored her husband in order to keep reading. It’s funny because I’d thought that it was the book in the Bollywood series I’d already read until she started talking about the plot and I was like, wait, what?? So anyway, now is the time for me to actually read this one. It’s also on my KissCon TBR so that will be two books I get to take off once I’m finished. Mili hasn’t seen her husband in twenty years, not since she was four, and now her brother-in-law has followed her to America to try and secure a divorce for his brother. But they’re drawn to one another and wow, I’m really excited to read this one.

Are you participating in ContemporaryAThon? If so, what are you reading?

xx
