Highly Anticipated: Winter Edition

I really should switch to doing these January to March and so forth, but who wants to do that? Regardless, there’s only one book on here for December, but it’s one I am extremely excited about! So let’s hop to it.

Dance All Nightby Alexis Daria

Daria’s Dance Off series has produced two five star books for me, so to say I’m looking forward to this novella is putting things lightly. Reversing the trope of grumpy hero and ball of sunshine heroine, this book follows grumpy Jess Davenport who has agreed to three dates with Nik Kovalenko, who is determined to convince her to be his. I really can’t wait!!

Once Ghosted, Twice Shyby Alyssa Cole

Speaking of novellas I’m excited about, CAN WE TALK ABOUT ALYSSA BLESSING US WITH NOT ONE BUT TWO NOVELLAS IN THE RELUCTANT ROYALS SERIES? Sorry, I’m calm. (Not really.) But this first one is so close and I’m so excited! Following Likotsi (aka Thabiso’s assistant), Once Ghosted, Twice Shy involves our precious bean who winds up trapped on a subway car with the woman she developed feelings for the last time she was in NYC (aka during A Princess in Theory). Things didn’t end well and now not only is she stuck in a subway car, she’s stuck in a subway car with Fabiola, aka the woman she unceremoniously dumped. Excuse the flailing, but I’m so excited!

In An Absent Dreamby Seanan McGuire

I’m just giving you the Goodreads synopsis because it doesn’t have spoilers and it perfectly captures the mood McGuire writes this series with:

This is the story of a very serious young girl who would rather study and dream than become a respectable housewife and live up to the expectations of the world around her. As well she should.

When she finds a doorway to a world founded on logic and reason, riddles and lies, she thinks she’s found her paradise. Alas, everything costs at the goblin market, and when her time there is drawing to a close, she makes the kind of bargain that never plays out well.

Overnight Sensationby Sarina Bowen

There is still, sadly, not a cover image for this one, but that’s okay. I love Sarina Bowen’s books and her hockey romances have a special place in my heart because that’s what I was introduced to her with. This particular installment of the Brooklyn Bruisers series follows Jason Castro as he deals with the sour note that capped off his otherwise stellar rookie year and whoops, the paparazzi, and the NHL Commissioner’s daughter?

King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

So I still need to finish the Grisha trilogy or whatever it was renamed, but Nikolai’s appearance in Crooked Kingdom was enough to have me chomping at the bit for this book to be in my hands. AND WE GET TO SEE MY BABE, NINA. So like, ya girl is pumped and can’t wait, and I’m still sad about Crooked Kingdom but also we have been blessed. Ya know?

99 Percent Mineby Sally Thorne

I need to re-read The Hating Game because even though I gave it five stars at the time, I’ve become disillusioned from all the hype and am skeptical it’s as good as I remember. Which is dumb. And also doesn’t have much to do with 99 Percent Mine other than I’m really looking forward to this one because of the fact that it’s the follow up to Sally Thorne’s massively popular The Hating Game. And this one is a brother’s best friend romance, which I am always a sucker for. I’m definitely looking forward to this one!

On the Come Upby Angie Thomas

Angie Thomas’s The Hate U Give was easily one of the best books of 2017 and is still on the NYT Best Seller’s List and has spent most of that time in the number one spot. The book is a fantastic and timely look at the consequences of police officers shooting black men (and boys) and getting away with it. This book takes place in the same neighborhood, but is following Bri, who wants to be a rapper. I’m really looking forward to this one and knowing who Angie Thomas looks up to rapper wise, I’m pretty sure we’re in for a treat. Not to mention the fact that Angie Thomas writes with a voice the world desperately needs to hear.

Release Date: February 5, 2019

An Unconditional Freedomby Alyssa Cole

This book was originally supposed to have come out this Fall, but it got pushed to February, so my excitement for it has only increased. This book follows Elle’s friend Daniel who is in Florida for spy things (I assume) and he meets a Cuban woman (also a spy?) and things happen. Okay, okay, so I don’t really know the plot of this one, but who cares about the plot? In my house we place our trust firmly in Alyssa Cole’s hands and await a glorious story because she always delivers.

Release Date: February 26, 2019

Devil’s Daughterby Lisa Kleypas

West is finally getting a book! I’m so excited. Also excited that we’re reuniting with my babes, the St. Vincents and their offspring. Phoebe has had a rough time of it. She’s a widowed mother of two and West popped up in her beloved husband’s stories… As a bully. But he’s here and so charming and I cannot wait!! I enjoyed Hello, Stranger but didn’t fall in love with it. I have much higher hopes for this one and I’m really, really excited about it.
