The Guilty Reader Tag

The Guilty Reader Tag was created by ReadLikeWildfire on YouTube and no one tagged me, but I’m obviously doing this anyway. This tag has been going around BookTube and just looks so fun! I can’t wait to do the tag and for you all to be totally appalled in the comments because I am definitely a guilty reader.

Have You Ever Regifted A Book That You’ve Been Given?

Kind of? Never as a gift, just as a passing something along that I got from someone else that also wasn’t a gift.

The bad thing that I do here is that I’ll buy people books and then read it myself before giving it to them. Sorry Nanny. Sorry Daddy.

Have you ever said you’ve read a book when you haven’t?

Um, yes. Like, so many. I never made it past fifty pages of Wuthering Heights, but when we had to read it for class, I definitely said I did. Also, there was a King Arthur book that I just COULD NOT finish. And also Tess of the Dubervilles or whatever. Like, I don’t even care enough to pull up how to spell these titles or to find their Goodreads pages. DO NOT CARE. Anyway, so yes, for class, many times.

Outside of class… Um… I don’t think so?

Have you ever borrowed a book and not returned it?

Dear Mrs. Vargo, I am SO SORRY for stealing your copy of A Wrinkle in Time and depriving all fifth graders who came after me of the opportunity to read this childhood classic that is now becoming a movie.

Dear Sarah, I recognize that Carry On is your book despite the fact that it looks super pretty on my shelf. Please don’t take it back from me without buying me my own copy. I want the pretty new paperback. Thanks, love you, bye.

Have you ever read a series out of order?

Romance novels, so many times. Series that actually need to be read in order… Not that I can think of, although perhaps with the Abhorsen series?

Have you ever spoiled a book for someone?

Oh, probably. I’ve definitely spoiled Jaclyn for books that she’s reassured me that she doesn’t want to read. It’s a side effect of living with me (along with throwing a book across the room, Silver Linings Playbook style when it makes me SOB).

Have you ever doggy eared a book?

Constantly. Genuinely did not realize how strongly people felt about this until I watched several people do this tag.

Have you ever told someone you don’t own a book when you do?

Um… Not that I can think of?

Have you ever told someone you haven’t read a book when you have?

I doubt it.

Have you every skipped a chapter or a section of a book?

I don’t know if I’ve skipped things so much as skimming sections of a book, like the Manon chapters in Heir of Fire before I realized that Manon is THE BEST.

Have you ever bad mouthed a book you actually liked?

Um… Yes, probably. I loved Twilight when I first read it in high school, but you know, when everyone decided we all had to hate it, I was like, “Oh yeah, that book is trash. Such a hate read.” Nah, y’all, I loved those. Of course, now, I legitimately do recognize how toxic Bella and Edward’s relationship was and I appreciate the criticisms. Also, Fifty Shades of Grey. I had a LOT of feelings about that book, both good and bad, but I didn’t hate it. I totally understand why people did, so I’ve definitely emphasized those thoughts when people insist on bashing it (unless they go TOO far and start using Fifty Shades to justify being a horrible person).

This tag was super fun! Let me know your guiltiest reading habit down below in the comments. If you want to do this tag, feel free to say I tagged you (and let me know because I definitely want to read it!).

xx
