June Releases & TBR

Y’all, there are a lot of books coming out in June, although perhaps slightly fewer than in May. But I’m really excited to share with you the books on my radar and I can’t wait to find out what books are on your radar! So let’s dive in, shall we?

June TBR | Firewhiskey Reader

ARC Copies

The Ripple Effect by Maggie North is about burned out ER doctor, Stellar J. Byrd, and honestly, that in and of itself was enough for me to be like, yes, please. I know I’m doing better with my burn out now than I was at the beginning of the year, but I wouldn’t say I’m back to being not burned out. Anyway, this book also features Dr. Byrd’s former hook up, Lyle McHugh, and apparently these two wind up needing to fake an engagement to save this business venture and I’m so on board. This book releases June 17th.

These Heathens by Mia McKenzie is also due out on June 17th and I’m so excited about this book because it’s set in the 1960s in Georgia and is about a 17 year old who needs an abortion. I love historical fiction with a focus on reproductive rights and I’m really looking forward to this. There’s a lot more going on with this book than just that, but it sounds like it’s going to be a great read!

Ready to Score by Jodie Slaughter will hit shelves on June 3rd and is a sapphic romance between Jade Dunn and Francesca Lim, both of whom want to coach the high school football team. I’m ready for this rivals to lovers romance from Jodie Slaughter, especially since it’s been a bit since her last release!

Plus Size Player by Danielle Allen is about Nina who has always had a man on stand by for whatever it is that she needed, but now she’s finally met a man who wants to be THE man. I like Allen’s writing and am really looking forward to this book from her, which comes out on June 10th!

When Javi Dumped Mari by Mia Sosa has a title I cannot seem to do a great job of actually remembering because I want to keep replacing the word “dumped.” However, I’m actually very much looking forward to this book because it’s been too long since I’ve had a Mia Sosa to read. Mari and Javi were best friends during college and they made a pact that they would never date someone the other didn’t approve of, but now Mari has fallen in love and is getting married to someone else who Javi has never met. The problem? Javi’s got his life where he wanted it and now he’s ready to confess his feelings and pursue Mari. What timing. If you, like me, are excited to pick this one up, it hits shelves on June 24th.

I am so excited for Metal Slinger by Rachel Schneider because Emmy raved about it, which led to Rachel raving about it, and I said, “Oh, I want to read that.” And that was so many months ago and I still haven’t picked it up. But I really am so excited to read this one! I’ve been really enjoying romantasy lately and so this one, which comes out on June 17th, is the one that I’m really hoping will join the ranks of my favorite books of the year when I read it. Do I actually understand what this is about? Nope. Something about the sea. And an annual market. So we’ll find out!

Hit Girls: Britney, Taylor, Beyoncé, and the Women who Built Pop’s Shiniest Decade by Nora Princiotti is a book that I requested pretty much entirely because I love books about music and I love Taylor Swift. But even more specifically, this book is really talking about the 2000s and I am so excited to revisit that time from a lens of examining how these women really did change the music industry. Especially since it’s so clear how much further there is to go. I really want to understand more than I do about the music industry.

Total Dreamboat by Katelyn Doyle comes out on June 24th and I am so excited because of how much I loved Doyle’s debut last year. (Admittedly, Doyle is a pen name for Scarlett Peckham, so was it really her debut? Who can say.) Hope’s life has imploded and now she’s on a cruise (which she’s not excited about), but her eyes meet Felix’s on day one and suddenly there’s someone to make this cruise a little less awful, perhaps. I cannot wait to read this one. Truly. I’m so excited to have this audiobook! I just got approved for it today, so hallelujah!

June Release I Desperately Wish I Had an ARC of:

Cover of Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Despite having read this synopsis a million times, I truly, truly do not understand what this book is about. Fortunately, I also do not care. I love TJR and I’m really excited for this one.

June Releases You May Want to Know About:

There are honestly SO many books that are coming out in June that I could have added about six dozen more books to this collection. But ultimately, I feel like I’ve shared with you a lot of the books that seemed like maybe you’d want to know about? That said, please share with me the books you would have included that I didn’t!

xx
