Favorites of Q2

Not to be a broken record, but how in the world have three more months gone by? I think I’m just starting to feel my age because I swear time never went this quickly as a kid. But regardless, here we are. In the last three months, I have read 68 books. I still have at least ten I want to talk about.. We’ll see if some more slip through (it’s definitely possible). I feel like I should be able to contain myself, but honestly, I really read some books that I loved these last few months, so you’re getting a large list instead of self-control. I’ll be controlled at the end of the year. Probably.

Honorable Mentions

10 – 6

10. Fourth Wing by Rebeca Yarros

I’m still not totally settled on what I’m rating this book, but I really did have the most fun time with this book. It gave me all of the SJM feels that I love and want about 80% of the time. I’m really interested in fantasy romance at the moment, so that helps too.

9. Ship Wrecked by Olivia Dade

I will never not adore Olivia Dade’s books, if I’m being honest. She just writes books that feel like being wrapped in a hug and I really loved Peter and Maria.

8. In a Jam by Kate Canterbary

There’s just something about a “my wife” guy in a marriage of convenience that will get me every time.

7. The Fiancée Farce by Alexandria Bellefleur

I really do love a solid marriage of convenience style story so Tansy and Gemma really captured my love and interest.

6. Magic Claims by Ilona Andrews

This book is what officially pushed me over the edge and kickstarted a re-read of the Kate Daniels books because I always have this idea in my head that the Kate Daniels series is my least favorite of the Andrews series, but I was kicking my feet and squealing over Kate and Curran in Magic Claims so… I’m re-evaluating.

5-1

5. Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez

If I compare Yours Truly to Part of Your World, it doesn’t quite measure up. But if I compare the way I feel about Yours Truly to the other books I’ve read this year, it is a clear standout. I absolutely love Jacob. His anxiety is absolutely fantastically represented. Plus, I just really adore Briana and the way that she handles being a partner to Jacob. The miscommunication that’s central to the heart of this story is aggravating at times, but it felt so incredibly realistic that I was just really vibing and along for the ride, experiencing every emotion right alongside Jacob and Briana.

4. The House on Mulberry Street by Jeannie Chin

I didn’t have very many expectations at all for The House on Mulberry Street, but was so pleasantly blown away because the emotionality in this book is just so incredibly well done. I loved the family dynamics explored here and I also just really appreciated the friends to lovers in this book.

3. Something Wild & Wonderful by Anita Kelly

Speaking of emotions, this book destroyed me a little bit. Kelly is such a talented writer and the character work in this book is absolutely fantastic. I am so, so excited for all of their projects in the future. This one was a bit of a surprise for me because I’m the antithesis of a nature person. Unless I can observe it from inside a place where there are no bugs. I don’t mind it then. Otherwise? Not a fan. ANYWAY, this book was just gorgeously written and absolutely magical. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend.

2. The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent

This book might be my actual new personality because it has sent me down a Carissa Broadbent spiral and I am having the time of my life. This also is the book that really kicked off my fantasy romance kick and I’m finding this time of my reading, glorious.

  1. Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

Look, I don’t know what to tell you, but this book was incredible for me. I didn’t think I’d love it because I’m really sensitive to books with sexual assault in them, but somehow, despite being horrifically caught off guard on page like 30 something, I still fell madly, deeply in love with this book. Elizabeth Zott, Six, and the kid? I loved it. It’s got writing I loved, but I also just really loved watching the story unfold. I can’t wait for the adaptation!

Closing Thoughts

What were your favorite books in the last three months? I’d love to hear!
