Oh, I am so excited it’s time for the Tome Topple Readathon! Round Six begins at midnight on June 29 and goes through July 12th. There are a lot of Readathons coming up, but Tome Topple has a special place in my heart because I adore long books and sinking into them. I read really quickly so as a kid when someone else was paying for my books, I would try and pick out really long ones so that I’d be entertained longer. Nowadays, I read mostly romance novels, which usually aren’t more than 500 pages, but there are a few. So let’s jump into what I’ll be reading!
1. Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness
I started re-reading A Discovery of Witches last night when I couldn’t sleep and will likely finish it up before Friday, but we’ll see. Anyway, Shadow of Night is the sequel to A Discovery of Witches and is a romance involving time travel, which checks off a box in The Ripped Bodice Bingo. I adore the series and was reminded of how much when I saw the trailer for the TV show, which has me wondering if I need to move to London to watch… Anyway, I am extremely excited to read this entire series. I don’t actually have a copy of the third book so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to read book three once I finish book two or if I’ll have to wait.
2. Kultiby Mariana Zapata
Another romance novel on my Ripped Bodice Bingo TBR, Kulti is a soccer romance where the heroine plays soccer and is crushing on the coach. At least, I’m pretty sure. I’m hoping that it gives me the same feels as Bend It Like Beckham. In fact, if there are books that you have read that give you Bend It vibes, please tell me. I want to read all of them. That movie is perfection. Anyway, Mariana Zapata’s The Wall of Winnipeg was so good that I pretty much bought the rest of her work and haven’t picked up any of them because they’re really long. So I’m excited to get to Kulti this coming two weeks!
3. The Long Way to a Small Angry Planetby Becky Chambers
I’m highly unlikely to get to another book, if we’re being honest, but if I do, I definitely want to try The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet because a) I’ve heard such good things about it and b) I’ve been doing a terrible job reading books with LGBTQIAP+ characters this year and I’ve heard this one has good rep. And I’ve been in the mood for a little fantasy and in my head sci-fi is close enough. We’ll see how it goes though!
Are you participating in Tome Topple? If so, what’s on your TBR? Let me know!
