This post is 100% dedicated to Nick, my favorite Scorpio aside from some family members I love dearly too. 🙂 There are a lot of traits that Scorpios have at least a tendency to contain, but arguably my favorite is that they really want to get to the heart of things. They want to know about people beyond just small talk topics of conversation and that’s awesome. They are also very curious and apparently make for great investigators. Apparently they also like beginnings and endings, which is wild to me, a person who has tremendous anxiety about all things new and everything that’s coming to a close. So, let’s talk about some books that Scorpios might like based on these traits! (Side note: My information about Scorpios came from this post from Astrology.com, which also talks a lot about what Scorpio in different planets means so that’s intriguing too.)

Trait: Get to the Heart of Things

Specifically, the article I referenced used this sentence, which I love and is how I’ve decided to select books to recommend: “There’s no fluff or chatter for Scorpios, either; these folks will zero-in on the essential questions, gleaning the secrets that lie within.” For me, there are a couple types of books this brings to mind. First, we have character focused fantasies and one of the ones I’ve recently read that I think would be perfect is Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas, which provides such a deep character study in this paranormal world, while these two boys fall in love even though one of them is a ghost. I also think The Diviners might be a really good choice for a series for people interested in getting to the heart of the matter and wanting to know characters well. The Diviners follows a host of characters throughout the series and each character really has moments where they get to shine. However, you might have to be a Scorpio who doesn’t necessarily mind characters operating in the grey area in order to really love it. Second, I think Scorpios who identify with this trait probably love romances that explore heavier themes. For anyone looking for romances like that, I would definitely recommend Kennedy Ryan who does this, but check content warnings before picking one up! My personal favorites are the Grip trilogy, Block Shot, and The Kingmaker duet. If you would like romances where the heavier stuff is mental health related, I would recommend Small Change and Invitation to the Blues by Roan Parrish.

Trait: Curious

Obviously, curious people who make for great investigators screams mysteries to me. One of the reasons I selected Cemetery Boys and The Diviners in the above category is because both of those also have a mystery at the heart of them. But other mysteries that I think would work really well for Scorpios are the Lady Sherlock series by Sherry Thomas because like Sherlock Holmes, Charlotte really does get to the heart of the matter as quickly as possible. I love this series, but I do need to catch up. Two other thriller/mystery/horror type books I read this year and would absolutely recommend are The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware and When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole.

Trait: Enjoying Beginnings and Endings

Truly a trait I cannot wrap my mind around, but I do think a few of the other books I’ve recommended will work for you as well here because lots of these characters are embarking on something new. In The Turn of the Key, our main character is embarking on a new nannying job in an allegedly haunted house, whereas in A Study of Scarlet Women, Charlotte is setting out on her own and is determined to make an independent life for herself. Another books I could recommend to fit the theme here, would be I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver, a book about a nonbinary teen who is kicked out of his home (an ending) and starts over with his sister and a new school (a beginning). This book obviously has pretty heavy content, but is ultimately a hopeful book. There’s also, The Map from Here to There by Emery Lord, the follow up to The Start of Me and You, which is a book that really perfectly captured a lot of my own anxiety as a high school senior trying to figure out where to go and what to do next. Or, maybe, if you’d like to cry, you might like They Both Die in the End by Adam Silvera, a book about two people who come together thanks to an app designed to help people find a companion on the day they will die.
